Earlier this year, Hyundai unveiled the new look of the 2021 Santa Fe. But more than styling updates, the automaker is also giving the midsize SUV new features, two additional gas-powered engine options, and a hybrid model.
Hyundai recently shared some of the details ahead of the vehicle’s arrival in the United States.
First on the list of upgrades is the new base engine—a 2.5-liter inline-four that delivers up to 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and will be available with a standard front-wheel-drive and optional all-wheel-drive. According to Hyundai, fuel efficiency will improve to 26 mpg combined, a 1 mpg increase from the previous one.
An optional turbo 2.5-liter inline-four is also set to arrive, offering 277 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. It’s an increase of 42 hp and 51 lb-ft from the 2.0T and is also poised to up fuel economy by 25 mpg. It will be paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic and will be available with a standard front-wheel-drive and optional all-wheel-drive.
For the hybrid model, Hyundai is set to release a 178-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four with a six-speed automatic and a 59-hp electric motor. The combined output goes up to 225 hp, with the combined EPA estimate at the mid-30 mpg range.
Also new for 2021 is the Calligraphy trim, which will now be the highest trim level. It will have a turbo engine and an all-wheel-drive as standard and will feature leather upholstery, 20-inch wheels, a special grille, plus a few other trim-exclusive accessories.
The other trim levels, meanwhile, will get the same updated look highlighted by a reshaped grille, different headlights and taillights, new wheel designs, and improved interior materials.
The gas-powered variants of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe are expected to arrive before the end of the year, while the hybrid is scheduled to arrive early next year. It will be followed by the plug-in hybrid shortly after.
