How to replace the serpentine belt 2007 – 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2

To replace the serpentine belt on your Silverado 2 just follow the steps. Step-by-Step Installation

Chapter 1:

Disconnect the battery

For safety reasons, we advise you to disconnect the battery.

Chapter 2:

Set up

Remove the engine cover. Pull on it to unclip it.

Remove the air hose by pulling on it.

Using a flathead screwdriver, loosen the holding clips for the air intake duct on the air box. Then, remove the hose.

Remove the serpentine belt

Using a ratchet and a 15 mm socket, loosen the belt by turning the serpentine belt tensioner clockwise.

You can now remove the belt.

When changing the belt, you should also replace the tensioner pulley and the idler pulley.

Remove the belt tensioner

Using a ratchet and a 15 mm socket, unscrew the 2 retaining bolts. Then remove the tensioner.

Remove the idler pulley

Using a ratchet and a 15mm socket, unscrew the holding bolt on the idler pulley located above the serpentine belt tensioner. Next, remove the idler pulley.

Install the idler pulley

Take the idler pulley.

Put it back in its place, then screw the bolt back in roughly by hand.

Finish tightening using a torque wrench.

Put the belt tensioner back

Take the belt tensioner. Then tighten the bolts by hand.

Finish tightening using a torque wrench.

Put the belt back

Take the new serpentine belt. Pay careful attention to which way up you use it. The writing on the belt must turn clockwise.

You can now put the serpentine belt back in place.

Slide the new belt around the different elements respecting the layout from the initial assembly.

To fully put it back in place, lift the serpentine belt tensioner in order to wind the serpentine belt onto all of the pulleys. Then release the belt tensioner to fully extend the belt.

Finalise the reassembly

Replace the air intake duct. Then screw the hose clamps back on.
