Set up
Using a multi-bit screwdriver and a 10 mm socket, unscrew the two bolts holding the engine cover.
Remove the engine cover.
Visualise
You can now see where the spark plugs are located. There are 3 spark plugs located on the passenger side and 3 located on the driver side.
Disconnect the ignition coil
Disconnect the power from the ignition coil. To do this, start by pushing on the white tab, then on the connector. You can use a flat head screwdriver.
Then, using a fork, remove the wiring harness retaining clip.
Remove the coil
Using a ratchet, an extender and a long 8 mm socket, remove the bolt holding the coil.
You can now carefully remove the coil, making small lateral back and forward movements.
Clean
Tip: we recommend using a thin plastic tube taped to the end of a vacuum to properly clean around the spark plug. This prevents the dirt from falling into the motor.
Remove the spark plugs
Using a socket wrench, an extender and a 9/16″ spark plug socket, loosen the spark plug. Finish unscrewing by hand. Remove the spark plug.
Install the new spark plugs
Grab the new spark plug. Put the new spark plug in place by inserting it directly into the spark plug socket, which will allow you to gently bring it to the screwing support.
Always start screwing by hand, then finish by fixing it in place with a socket wrench.
Tightening tips
There are several techniques for tightening spark plugs. You can use a torque wrench and employ the tightening torque recommended by the manufacturer. Or you can use an angular torque gauge to respect the recommended angle.
Install the coil
Put the coil back. While holding the assembly, screw the retaining bolt back in by hand.
Screw it in until it makes contact using the ratchet.
Finish tightening using a torque wrench.
Reconnect the ignition coil
Then put the retaining clip back in place.
Plug the electrical connector back in. And lock it.
Finish the operation
You can now repeat the process on the other spark plugs.
Finalise the reassembly
Put the engine cover back on. Then, screw the retaining bolts back in.
Operation complete.
