To replace the inner tail light on your Civic it couldnt’ be easier. You’ll need to disconnect the battery, disconnect the inner tail light, remove the inner tail light as well as carry out a few other steps. You can carry out this tutorial of 9 chapters in 45 minutes. Bring your 8 mm socket and your 10 mm socket and let’s get started!

Open the hood
Turn off your vehicle’s ignition, set the parking brake, pull the hood release handle and open the hood.
Disconnect the battery
For safety reasons, we advise you to disconnect the battery.
Open the trunck (v)
Pull on the trunk release handle, and open the trunk.
Informations
Contrary to the video, your vehicle may have a carpet that needs to be removed to access the light bulb in the tailgate.
Disconnect the inner tail light
To remove the light bulb socket from the taillight housing, turn it counterclockwise and pull it out.
Remove the inner tail light
Using a multi-bit screwdriver and an 8 mm socket, unscrew the 4 inner taillight holding nuts.
To remove the inner taillight, you need to remove the protective strip from the license plate light.
Using a multi-bit screwdriver and a 10 mm socket, unscrew the bolt holding the trunk lock and the strip in place.
Use a fork to unclip the 4 clips holding the license plate light protective strip in place. Then, remove it.
Use needle-nose pliers to pinch the inner taillight retaining clip.
You can now remove the light.
Install the new inner tail light
Take the new tail light.
Put the light back in.
Screw the 4 taillight retaining nuts back on by hand until they make contact.
Finish tightening with the multi-bit screwdriver and the 8 mm socket.
Reconnect the inner tail light
Put the socket into the taillight housing and turn it clockwise to lock it in place.
Finalise the reassembly
Clip the license plate light protective strip back on.
Screw the trunk lock retaining bolt back on.
Operation complete.
