How to replace the rear bumper reinforcement 2006-2011 Honda Civic

To replace the rear bumper reinforcement on your Civic it couldnt’ be easier. You will be asked to open the trunk, remove the rear bumper cover, remove the rear bumper reinforcement as well as carry out a few other steps. Step-by-Step Installation

Chapter 1:

Open the trunk

Step 1/2

Turn your engine off and set the parking brake.

Chapter 1:

Pull on the trunk release handle, and open the trunk.

Chapter 2:

Set up

In the wheel arches, using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the 2 screws holding the rear bumper cover to the rear fender and body.

Chapter 2:

Using a multi-bit screwdriver and a T30 or 5 mm Allen socket, unscrew the bumper cover retaining bolt. Do the same on the other side.

Slide the bumper under the bumper cover. Using a fork, remove the 2 rivets holding the bumper cover.

Remove the rear bumper cover

You can now unclip the rear bumper cover from the bumper retainers.

The rear bumper cover is now free: you can remove it, preferably with help from a second person.

Remove the bumper absorber.

Remove the rear bumper reinforcement

You can now see the 6 bumper reinforcement retaining bolts.

Start by unscrewing the 4 outer bolts using a ratchet, an extender and a 12 mm socket.

Using the same tools, loosen the two inner bolts.

Hold the bumper reinforcement with your hand to prevent it from falling. Next, fully unscrew the two inner retaining bolts.

You can now remove the rear bumper reinforcement.

Chapter 5:

Reinstall the rear bumper reinforcement

Step 1/2

Put the bumper reinforcement in place, then screw in the 6 retaining bolts.

Chapter 5:

Finish the tightening of the bolts with a torque wrench.

Chapter 6:

Reinstall the rear bumper cover

Step 1/5

Put the bumper absorber in place.

Chapter 6:

Put the rear bumper cover back in place, by its central part first. Then reattach each side to the bumper cover retainers.

Chapter 6:

Step 3/5

Screw the retaining bolts back on at the trunk.

Chapter 6:

Step 4/5

Screw the 4 rear bumper cover retaining screws back onto the body and fender. Under the vehicle, put the rivets back in place.
