To replace the radiator support on your Ram 1500 It’s easy. You will need to open the hood, disconnect the battery, remove the grille assembly, the healdights and bumper cover as well as carry out a few other steps. Open the hood
Turn off your vehicle’s ignition, set the parking brake, pull the hood release handle and open the hood.
Disconnect the battery
For safety reasons, we advise you to disconnect the battery.
Remove the grille assembly, the healdights and bumper cover
In order to change the radiator bracket on your vehicle, you need to remove the Grille assembly, the headlight and the bumper cover.
Set up
Using a ratchet, an extender and a 10 mm socket, unscrew the two bolts holding the plastic fastener of the bumper cover.
Do the same on the other side.
Lift the vehicle
Lift the front of your vehicle.
Remove the bumper cover plastic fastener
Position yourself under the vehicle.
Next, using a fork, remove the 4 rivets holding the rubber protection.
You can now remove the plastic fastener of the bumper cover.
Remove the active grille shutter
Using a ratchet, an extender and a 13 mm socket, unscrew the 2 upper retaining bolts of the active grille shutter.
Next, using a ratchet, an extender and a 10 mm socket, unscrew the 2 lower retaining bolts of the active grille shutter.
Unclip the hood release cable located on the active shutter grille.
Rotate the active shutter grille to access its power connector. Then disconnect it.
You can now remove the active grille shutter.
Remove the hood latch
Using a ratchet, an extender and a 10 mm socket, unscrew the two bolts holding the hood release system. Then shift it.
Remove the coolant reservoir
Using the same tools, unscrew the two bolts holding the expansion tank.
Remove the overflow hose. Then remove the expansion tank.
Remove the washer pump fluid reservoir
Take a liquid collector to collect the windshield washer fluid that will flow out.
Then remove the washer fluid pump hose.
Disconnect the power connector from the washer fluid pump, and unclip the cable from the reservoir.
Using a ratchet, an extender and a 10 mm socket, unscrew the 2 bolts holding the washer fluid reservoir.
Extract the reservoir, unclip the cables, then disconnect the electrical connector from the washer level sensor by pushing on the red plastic tab, then pulling on it.
Remove the washer fluid reservoir.
Remove the bumper support brackets
Using a ratchet, an extender and a 10 mm socket, unscrew the 3 bolts holding the bumper support bracket.
Then, remove it.
Do the same on the other side.
Remove the elements on the radiator bracket
Using a fork, unclip the various power cables located on the radiator bracket.
Unscrew the two bolts holding the radiator assembly on the engine side using a ratchet and a 13 mm socket.
Using a ratchet and a 10 mm socket, unscrew the 3 bolts holding the metal bracket on the driver’s side. Then, remove it.
Next, using a fork, remove the rivet holding the rubber protection on the radiator bracket.
On the driver’s side, brush the 2 upper radiator bracket retaining bolts and spray them with penetrating oil.
Do the same with the 3 lower retaining bolts.
Next, unscrew the 5 bolts using a ratchet, an extender and a 13 mm socket.
Do the same on the other side.
Remove the radiator bracket
Pass the washer level sensor cable through the radiator bracket.
On each side of the radiator bracket, remove the two locking clips.
Lift the radiator assembly to release the rubber insulators from the radiator bracket. Rotate the radiator bracket.
Next, disconnect the airbag sensors located on each side of the radiator bracket. Then unclip the wiring.
You can now remove the radiator bracket.
Put the elements on the radiator bracket back
Take the new radiator bracket and install the silent blocks holding the headlights recovered from the old radiator bracket.
Place the plastic brackets on each side using a ratchet and a 10 mm socket.
Collect the two airbag sensors and put them in place on the bracket. Then screw them back on.
Reattach the airbag sensor wiring, then reconnect them.
Install the new radiator support
While lifting the radiator assembly, put the radiator bracket back in place, making sure the retaining lugs are correctly positioned in their slots.
Next, position the rubber insulators of the radiator assembly on the radiator bracket.
To temporarily hold the assembly together, put the locking clips back in place on each side.
You can now screw the 5 radiator bracket retaining bolts back on each side.
Put the metal bracket back in place on the driver’s side. Then screw the 3 bolts back on.
You can now screw the two radiator assembly retaining bolts back on.
Pass the washer level sensor cable through the bracket again.
Reattach the various power cables to the radiator bracket.
Put the bumper support brackets back
On each side of the vehicle, tighten the 3 bolts holding the bumper support brackets.
Put the washer pump fluid reservoir back
Reconnect the washer level sensor connectors.
Put the cable back in place on the washer fluid reservoir.
Put the washer fluid reservoir back in place.
Reconnect the washer fluid pump power connectors and reattach the cable to the reservoir.
Put the hose back onto the washer fluid pump.
Then screw the 2 reservoir retaining bolts back on.
Remove the collection container.
Put the coolant reservoir back
Put the expansion tank back in place by passing the overflow hose through the radiator bracket first.
Then screw the 2 expansion tank retaining bolts back on.
Reconnect the overflow hose.
Put the hood latch back
Put the hood opening system back in place and screw it back on.
Put the bumper cover plastic fastener back
Reattach the rubber protection.
Put the active grille shutter back
Return the active grille shutter to position and reconnect it.
Reattach the wiring to the active grille shutter.
Then put the shutter back in place.
Screw the two upper retaining bolts back on.
Then the two lower retaining bolts.
Put the grille assembly, the healdights and bumper cover back
Reattach the hood release cable.
Put the plastic fastener of the bumper cover back in place.
Screw the two retaining bolts back on.
Reattach the rubber protection.
Put the bumper cover back in place.
Put the headlights back in place.
Put the Grille assembly back in place.
Adjust the hood closing stops
Using a ratchet and a 30 mm socket, screw the two hood closing stops back on, so that the hood rests evenly on the stops in closed position.
Reconnect the battery
Reconnect the battery.
Put the vehicle back on the ground
You can now rest your vehicle on the ground.
