Open the hood
Turn your engine off and set the parking brake.
Pull on the hood release handle and open the hood.
Open the brake fluid reservoir.
Lift the vehicle
Loosen the wheel lug nuts on the rear wheels.
Lift the rear of your vehicle. Place the vehicle on the jack stands.
Don’t forget to put the wheels under the vehicle!
Remove the rear brake system
Now you need to remove the brake system.
Remove the rear axle shaft
To access your backing plate, you need to remove the rear axle shaft.
Remove the parking brake shoes
Now you need to remove the parking brake shoes.
Remove the anchor plate
Disengage the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever.
Then pull on the parking brake lever to remove it by jiggling it back and forth.
Using a ratchet and an 8mm socket, unscrew the three bolts holding the backing plate.
You can now remove the backing plate.
Clean
Using a wire brush, clean the contact surface between the brake backing plate and the rear knuckle.
Put the anchor plate back
Take the new rear brake backing plate.
Install the rubber gasket provided with it.
Replace the backing plate. Then tighten the three bolts.
Reinsert the brake parking lever into the rubber gasket.
Reconnect the parking brake cable to the brake parking lever.
Reinstall the parking brake shoes
Now you need to reinstall the parking brake shoes.
Put the rear axle shaft back in place
Now you need to put the rear axle shaft back in place.
Remove the rear brake system
Now put the brake system back in place.
Put the vehicle back on the ground
Then, you will be able to put the wheels back on your vehicle.
Put the car back on the ground and block the wheels properly.
Don’t forget to screw the brake fluid cap back on before starting the car.
Safety tips
Attention! Before using your vehicle again, start your car, and pump the brake pedal a few times to push the brake pads together again.
