To replace the starter on your Ram 1500 we’re here to help. You’ll need to lift the vehicle, disconnect the battery, remove the mudguard as well as carry out a few other steps. You can carry out this tutorial of 12 chapters in 45 minutes. Take your 13 mm wrench and your 10 mm socket and let’s get started!

Open the hood
Turn off your vehicle’s ignition, set the parking brake, pull the hood release handle and open the hood.
Disconnect the battery
For safety reasons, we advise you to disconnect the battery.
Lift the vehicle
Loosen the lugs on the driver’s side front wheel.
Lift the front of your vehicle. Place the vehicle on the jack stands.
Don’t forget to put the wheel under the vehicle!
Remove the mudguard
Now you need to remove the mudguard.
Unclip the ABS sensor cable retaining clip behind the mudguard.
Using a ratchet and an 8mm socket, unscrew the 3 mudguard retaining screws.
Next, remove the mudguard.
Disconnect the starter
You can now see the starter, which is located under the junction point between the engine block and the catalytic converter.
Position yourself under the vehicle.
Using a fork, disconnect the ignition connector.
Using a 13mm wrench, unscrew the positive terminal retaining nut. Then remove the positive terminal.
Remove the starter
The starter retaining bolts are difficult to access.
Using a ratchet, an extender, a gimbal and a 15mm socket, unscrew the 2 starter retaining bolts.
You can now remove the starter from underneath the vehicle.
Install the new starter
Take the new starter, and put it in its place.
Next, screw the 2 retaining bolts back in.
Finish the tightening of the bolts with a torque wrench.
Reconnect the starter
Put the positive terminal back on the new starter.
Then screw the retaining nut back in.
Reconnect the ignition connector.
Reconnect the battery
Reconnect the battery.
Tips
Start your vehicle to make sure it is running.
Put the mudguard back in
Put the mudguard back in place.
Then tighten all the screws.
Clip the ABS sensor connector back inside the mudguard.
Put the vehicle back on the ground
Then, you will be able to put the wheel back on your vehicle.
Put your vehicle back on the ground before properly fixing the wheels in place.
Operation complete.
