Question: So I bought this camera. My 2017 Chevy Silverado originally did not have a back up camera. When I installed the camera and plugged it in, put the truck in reverse, no camera appeared on my dash. I called a Chevy dealership about the camera not working. They stated that since the truck didn’t come from factory with a back up camera, I would need a VCI# to give them to be able to program the radio to recognize that a back up camera has been installed. Do y’all have a VCI# for this part?Nick S. / May 26, 2022
Hi Nick, I'm glad to assist you. Since you originally do not have the backup camera, you have to complete the hardware for the backup camera. That is a universal camera module interface. We do not carry that parr, but you can buy that locally or online. It is best to refer to a local retailer so you could ask for details about the product. I hope this helps. Happy shopping.

Answered by Jeonino E. / Thu, May 26This is a complicated issue. In short, I don’t have the number. The part I ordered didn’t work since the original had a circuit which included the tail gate lock. I do know that their is a program necessary to get the camera to show up on the screen. I expect as usual the dealers will not help unless they do the retro fit and install. Good luck!

Answered by RD M. / Fri, May 27If your truck didn't come equipped with a camera the control module was not programed. The dealer maybe able to program the controller with the tec-II computer. You may want make a few more calls just to check before you take it the the dealer at over $120 an hour.

Hi Donald, I'm glad to help you out. This will not work if the vehicle is not equipped with a backup camera originally. There will be no plug-ins for the connector to plug into. We suggest that you visit your local GM dealership if they can provide you the wiring harness needed for this camera to work on the truck. I hope this helps and happy shopping.
