Fan was a near fit with the exception of the cable housing connector, so it was left off with no apparent issues. Fan and new resistor work well and solved the operational issues that were present for the past 6 months. Word of advice, the resistor and fan should both be changed, or you will be replacing one or another in a month. Resistor is next to or behind the fan housing - two screws.
