4-stars for price and because it worked in the end. And because I'm amazed that it exists at all for a 30+ year old car. The tabs on my switch needed to be trimmed with an exacto in 4 places (~ 1mm) for the switch to 'latch' into the dash.

I think you can only find salvaged ones now. Try calling the old VW salvage yard "Way Out Auto" in Arkansas, he ships anywhere and most likely can get you one out of an old van.
