You have to take the plastic bumper off. If you look it up on YouTube there is a video to show you

I used s half in ratchet with a swivel along with a hand half inch to speed it up

Sorry, I can't help you. I took mine where I do all my upkeep, auto work on my van and they put them on for me. Took about an hour, but saved me a lot of headache and time.
