I loved how easy these headlights were to install. Plug and play for sure. They are also brand new and very vibrant. Yes, the low and high beam bulbs for this headlight is replaceable once it goes bad or defective.

Hi John,
They made halogen and HID headlights for the 2005 Volkswagen Touareg Base 6 Cyl 3.2L. Halogen lights consist of a tungsten filament and halogen gas. The gas heats up and illuminates the bulb. With HID lights, electrodes charge the xenon gas inside the bulb to create illumination. Normally, HID has an igniter or ballast behind the housing.

Halogen and HID headlights are not interchangeable, try to check if you have an igniter behind the housing, if not, that's a regular halogen headlight.

Answered by Jay G. / Fri, Nov 27If you can see the inner halogen bulb and a projector lense in the outer lamp ie. they look different, you have Halogens. If you can only see the projector lenses in both lamp locations ie. they look the same, you have HID. The HIDs generally get burned reflectors in the the outer low/hi beam location. These either need replacing or refinishing. You can also replace the halogen high beam bulbs (in the HiD type assembly the inner flash hi beams are halogen with projector lenses) with HID or LED kits. The inner reflectors don't generally get burned as they aren't constantly used. If you have Halogens or buy these you should be able to retrofit HIDs or LEDs to the outer hi/lo beam projectors. Watch out for old crumbling wiring inside the old units.
