IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER ....GREAT BUY!Ignition Lock Cylinder, Chrome, With Keys, Ignition Switch Mounting Location
5.0/5
Hi, I was having issues with my ignition switch for over a year, and then in the last 2 months it got really bad, where I just had to fuss and fuss with the steering wheel and kept trying different keys to the same ignition. I meant it lasted about 30 years. So, I can't really complain.
Finally, I went to the car service repair place that I've gone to for many years with my 1996 Toyota 4 Runner. They quoted me 135.00 labor to replace the lock cyclinder, which I thought was really reasonable. I then asked for a price on the lock cylinder itself, and they looked it up right there on their computer and said it was 150.00.
I had already seen the one on Carparts the same morning, so I told them I would provide the part. Am I happy with the price I got from CARPARTS? Saved about 125.00 at least just on this part. Starts like a brand-new 4 Runner.
I also want to add that I kept receiving updates regularly on the shipping, which was really helpful when it came to scheduling my service at the repair shop. Thank you... Carparts. com

Question: What does it mean without a transponder key?A Shopper / Apr 05, 2020
A transponder key is a key with a chip located at the top part of the key and will only work for that specific vehicle. This year make and model does not have a transponder key nor does it offer that type of key.

Answered by Joseph M. / Tue, Apr 28Question: How do I get the old one out if the key won’t turn on at all?Mike55 / Jun 25, 2021
Hi Mike, I'm glad to help you out. Spray it with WD40 and try to move the steering wheel back and forth while gently removing the key from the lock position. Sometimes the steering wheel will lock, and when this happens, the ignition switch will keep your key locked in place until the steering system is unlocked. Don't pull hard on the key at all. Another easy method for removing a stuck key is to push down on the key cylinder with your left index finger while simultaneously jiggling the key with your right hand. This can loosen the grasp of the springs and pins located inside the cylinder and allow the key to slide out. I hope this helps, and if you're interested in this ignition lock cylinder, you can click on the link below to easily order and take advantage of our ongoing sale and limited stocks. Happy shopping.

Keep working it with w-d40. I had to wiggle the steering wheel. This is the vid I used to change out the cylinder on my '01 Tacoma.

Answered by Hannah / Thu, Nov 05Question: Does this kit include the key for the door lock as well?Quentin N. / Mar 16, 2021
Hi Quentin,
No. This is only for the ignition. You'll have 2 sets of keys, for the ignition and 1 for the doors and trunk. You can also find an auto locksmith in your area to make 1 key work for all.
GG
No, just the ignition key. I just use the old key to open the door and the new key to start it. No big deal.
