Awww New Parts!Driver Or Passenger Side Hood Lift Support

I got tired of using a board to hold the hood up so I ordered a new set of lift supports. Popped the old ones out and the new ones in while using said board to hold the hood up as usual. After replacing just one support I did not need the board. After replacing both supports I only have to lift the hood about 16 inches and let go, the lift supports lifts the hood from there! Why didn't I do this earlier?
