Hello! It does sound like the microswitch in the actuator that indicates the hatch is closed has failed.

I had the same issue with my vehicle. You could hear the the latch actuate but it did not lock. The problem was fixed by replacing the mechanism. The design of the area where the latch is allow dirt and moisture to get into the mechanism and it gets stiff and/or rusted which makes the mechanism stick and not work. Replacing the mechanism is pretty easy if you have good mechanical skills, be carefull when removing the plastic cover on the back door. Don’t force anything . There are screws that need to come out before the cover pops off. Look up replacing the mechanism on YouTube.

Answered by Robert B. / Mon, Aug 24That was the issue with mine too... You could hear it but didn't lock..I even tore the old one apart trying to fix it, but it was worn down..
Replacing it with this one fixed everything and was extremely easy to install.. once you get the bolts loosened on the original.
