It's a hair different in shape. I bought one to replace the one a deer snapped off. The cover piece, which is silver on my old mirror, goes together differently, so I wasn't able to simply swap it with the silver one from my original mirror. So I have lopsided 'spot' ears on my car.

No it is definitely not the same. The shell from your old mirror would not fit on this one. It’s close enough not to notice but a little different.
