Hi Mark, I'm pleased to assist you. It is acceptable to remove the radiator cap when it is cold, but not when it is hot. You can use gloves or a large heavy cloth to protect yourself. Turn the radiator cap counterclockwise, without pushing down, to the first stop. This allows any remaining pressure in the cooling system to be released.
