The base model will not have the open vents you see next to the fan area. It will be solid in the area. There are other mounting points for the radiator that are different, but that is the easiest indicator.

No it will not fit since this has the mounts for the intercooler on a mini Cooper s for the turbocharger, which the base model does not have.

I would go with the one they suggested. Minis are very picky and one doesn't always fit another.
