The usual material used is stainless steel and copper conductor wire encased in thick rubber silicone compound.

Hi Alwyn,
This is matching the factory original specifications(OEM stock specifications). The solid core type is usually being used for performance improvement, such with modified engines with added horsepower...etc.
An excerpt from our technical resource show-Solid core spark plug wires typically utilize stainless steel or copper, which conducts electrical current very well. For that reason, solid core wires have lower resistance than other wires to get maximum energy to the plugs.
