Question: How hard is a 2016 Toyota Highlander driver side tail rear tail light to put in?  It’s the tail light on the rear side not on the lift gate.  Can anyone do it?Pam N. / Oct 15, 2020
Hi Pam, We recommend referring to a good repair manual for step by step instructions. It may require basic automotive knowledge for proper installation and professional installation is always recommended. It was a little harder than I thought it would be. It took me a little over an hour to completely remove the old one and install the new. If you have replaced stuff like this before or if you like a little challenge you can do it!

Easy-peasy! Just a couple of 12 mm hex screws and it pops right off. Twist and pull the bulb socket(s) and put them in new part. If you have a metric socket set and can change a light bulb, you can do this.

It’s pretty easy, all you need is a screw driver and know which wires to tie together with tape. Or you can go to a local mechanic like I did, I ended giving the mechanic $10 to install it in 2 minutes.

I took it to a local service station and the mechanic there did it for me quite quickly. He charged me $80.

Just open rear hatch, remove the two Phillips head screws which secure the lens, slide lens to rear to disengage tabs in front, then remove pigtail plug (squeeze and pull). Installation is the reverse. Don't overtighten the securing screws, just good and snug.
