Answered by Grace G. / Tue, Jan 19I have a 98 Chevy S10 but they are probably the same. Once the three bolts from the inside of the gate are removed and the two latch bars disconnected, the mechanism is easily removed and the new one installed. The two latch bars are prevented from falling to the bottom of the gate by a metal stop so they are easy to reach and connect to the new mechanism. It was a quick install.
