Hi Christopher, I'm pleased to assist you. When replacing a valve cover kit, you do not need to apply sealant to the gasket or motor. The gasket is intended to seal the valve cover to the engine without the need for any sealant. Applying sealer on the gasket can cause issues. The sealant can squeeze out of the gasket and block oil passages, or it can harden and make it difficult to remove the valve cover in the future.
