Question: Will this correct erratic speedometer?Dewey W. / Jan 16, 2021
Hi Dewey, Transmission speed sensors are used to calculate the actual gear ratio of the transmission while in use. The other sensor is the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor. If either of these two sensors falls out of alignment or experience electrical issues, it impacts the operation of the entire transmission. The erratic speedometer problem can be solved by having a mechanic lubricate the cable housing or clean the sensors, as long as there is no damage to the sensors or cable. In some cases, the housing or cable is cut or has frays that are causing the erratic behavior of the speedometer.

This was sensor was change due to transmission shifting issue. On this vehicle the speedometer would not go a past 30 mph. So it is possible that it could help with your issue

Yes it can, an erratic speedometer is just 1 symptom of a bad sensor. The system requires the sensors data to keep the car running at a constant speed.

Hi Sharon, I had a similar issue with my GMC Envoy and had to replace the one of the two sensors on my transmission. Not sure on your Trailblazer, but on my Envoy there are two identical sensors. One for the input and one for the output. I only needed one of the two, but for $20, I replaced both. Problem solved. Hope it helps. Steve.

As the Carparts staff person stated, have a certified mechanic check it out. However in my case, the computer code stated I also needed a speed sensor. I ordered the speed sensor & my mechanic installed it & problem solved. I actually needed a front one also.
