Question: Is the collar on the spline for transmission side removable? The locking ring is not going in far enough to engage the slot due to the collar. 2015 Jeep patriot is vehicle.Don G. / Jul 07, 2021
I think you're referring to the dust shield. Mine too was in the wrong position, preventing full engagement of the lock ring. I tried to move it back, but ending up destroying it. The dust shield from my old cv joint came off pretty easily so I installed that on the new one in the correct position and it worked fine. You can remove it and leave it off, but it's meant to keep dirt out of the Transaxle seal, so that 's a consideration.
