Mystery SolvedBreather Hose, 6 Cyl., 3.0L Engine, From Valve Cover To Oil Separator
5.0/5
I had removed the cabin air intake system to get to the windshield wiper motor. There was a very oily foam covered hose near the back of the engine with cracked foam held together with a zip tie. What was it? Was it supposed to be so oily? Did it explain why the car had needed oil to be added so frequently? Research identified the hose to be a crankcase breather hose - that gets brittle and easily breaks when working close to it. There are two similar hoses. The other one goes from the crankcase breather valve down to an oil drain low down under the hood. This one near the top turns a corner at the point where it attaches to the crankcase breather valve, and the other one lower down had come up most in searches for a crankcase breather hose. For those who aren't sure what an oil separator is, this is the upper hose visible from the top with the air intake removed. It turned out the hose - and not just the foam - had been broken. What was the crankcase breather valve that the new hose would connect to? It's a valve that when it starts to stick, if it sticks open, then later comes unstuck and closes, can cause all the mystery intermittant rough idle and loss of power issues that had been getting worse. The new crankcase breather valve was available as a set with three hoses included. All three hoses ended up breaking while removing the old crankcase breather valve, so the set seemed like the way to go. The new valve and hoses went back back together easier than the old ones had come apart. The initial test showed a new transmission fault and other new fault codes, but the crankcase position sensor electrical connection had come accidently unplugged. Once reconnected, the check engine light and all engine fault codes were gone. So if your car has mystery engine performance issues, a new valve with the set of hoses including this one may solve your mystery. My new breather hose that I first purchased to connect the valve cover to oil separator is still unopened on the kitchen counter, so I cannot speak to its performance, but for someone with no engine performance issues, who accidently breaks the hose or finds it leaking, this part will work much better than a zip tie. Someone will thank you for installing it.

Good parts/Inaccurate DateBreather Hose, 6 Cyl., 3.0L Engine, From Valve Cover To Oil Separator
4.0/5
The parts I have ordered have all been the proper parts. I do have 1 concern, every time I order parts they actually arrive 1 to 2 days later than the day it showed when I order. I truly wish the dates where more accurate. Maybe I or we can make a different decision if we know true dates of delivery. I do appreciate the parts fitment accuracy though.
