Question: could not get head bolts over 90 foot lbs suposto go to 120 pulled it out and it stretched a lot at the threads? part dnjhbk1105gene G. / Nov 06, 2020
Hi Gene,
The head bolts are designed to stretch when torqued, to yield. Please check the manufacturer's specifications on the tightening pattern and oil the bolts prior to tightening. A bolt of this design is intended to be installed in the plastic range and cannot be reused after being tightened once. These head bolts are for VIN K, SOHC Engine, 12 Valve.

Answered by Grace G. / Fri, Nov 06The head bolts are torque to yield. They are designed to stretch when torqued. Follow the manufacturers specifications on tightening pattern. Torque to yield bolts cannot be reused. To do it properly you should have coated the bolts with oil prior to tightening.
