It's exactly as pictured with the thin middle line, not the ugly thicker style one. I got it precisely because It doesn't come with the Chevy emblem. I used it on a '94 GMC Stepside Shorty

I had to make some modifications so the side lights would fit. The replacement grille is not exactly like the original, which I still have. So sanding/filing down some of the inserts is required. As far as the side lights I did not have that problem. Also, I'm not sure what you meant by "too small". They fit but the housing is too large? Hope this helps.

88 and 89 had 4 headlights 90 and up had composite headlights that could be the difference

It does fit the dual headlight assembly, but the center emblem portion was not replicated exactly as the original. It is more slender and when you mount the emblem it falls outside of the chrome band.
