Just normal hand tools. It’s been two years since I installed so I do not recall exact sizes. A 1/2 drive ratchet, a couple of sockets (3/4” up to 7/8”), and a couple of corresponding wrenches. Soak with penetrating oil a couple of days before attempting. You will encounter rusted hardware. Overall it’s not a bad job. Use a decent jack and jack stands if appropriate. My truck (2002 F-350 4WD) sits high enough I didn’t need to jack it up. Good luck and by all means be safe!

YouTube is also a very reference for this kind of job. I tend to favor videos uploaded by repair facilities. I’ll never exclude manuals, but I find informative videos just as useful and certainly more interesting.
