Question: Yes I hope someone can help me but I have a 1999 Dodge van 1500 , 318 motor and driving down the road and it just dies out and all my gauges flat line and go to zero, sometimes it starts right back up and other times it takes a few hours and now it won't start and it's been two days, it will turn over all day long but won't start ????David D. / Mar 17, 2021 / 2001 Dodge Ram 1500Crankshaft Position Sensor
Hi David, We highly recommend that a certified mechanic diagnose the vehicle to pinpoint what part needs replacement.

It could be that the crankshaft sensor or camshaft senor has failed, but I would first try a simple possible fix. It may be your ASD Relay. It is located in the under-the-hood fuse box. If you have the fuse box cover it will indicate which relay it is. All of the same size relays are the same and interchangeable. Blow the horn and then remove that relay and switch with the ASD. Blow the horn. If it does not blow then the relay is bad. Also try to crank the van. If it does not crank, it could just be poor contacts. Try another relay switch. The fuel pump relay must be present to crank/run.

Question: I have a dodge ram 1500 98 and it's losing power and back fire though carburator?Joshua O. / Jan 02, 2021 / 2001 Dodge Ram 1500Crankshaft Position Sensor
Hi Joshua, If the crankshaft position sensor or its wiring has any issues, it can cause the crankshaft signal to be cut off while the engine is running, which can cause the engine to stall. Bad plug wires (jumping spark) and a bad distributor cap are common to both misses and backfire. Other things you might want to check: vacuum leak, bad fuel injectors, and the carburetor accelerator pump.

The crank sensor may cause such a problem, but backfire is usually caused by a momentary interruption of electrical power. That said it can also be caused by the cam sensor. However, often the problem in this age of Dodge trucks is in the fuse box under the hood. The ASD module may need to be replaced, or as the fuse block wiring is very small gauge and very stiff, it may be a interment break inside the insulation causing a temporary loss electrical power. If it a defective wire, then the shock of the backfire often reconnects the wire. The backfire is caused by the hot engine firing the gas, without electricity, as the engine spins.

Question: The part pictured shows two pick up points is this true parts if ordered?Tony T. / Oct 14, 2024 / 2001 Dodge Ram 1500Crankshaft Position Sensor
Hi Tony, thank you for reaching out. This crankshaft position sensor doesn't have a pickup point since the pickup point is on the crankshaft or crankshaft pulley. This sensor detects the pickup points as the crankshaft rotates. The photo of this product is the actual image of the part.
