Hello,
If your truck has the ESOF (Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly) hubs, when the hub dials are in the "auto" position, a high vacuum signal is used to lock the hubs and a low vacuum signal is used to unlock the hubs. Manually turning the dial to the "lock" position will keep the mechanism locked.

Hello, it is a rather involved process to retrofit the automatic locking function on a truck that did not have that feature from the factory. There are writeups available, but they generally involve quite a bit of wiring and vacuum hose routing.
