This is not compatible with the 2004 Ford F-150 "FX4" 8 Cyl. You mentioned FX4 submodel, but a Ford Ranger for 2004 does not have an FX4 submodel, that is only for the 2004 F150 FX4. But, this is a guaranteed fit for a 2004 Ford Ranger XLT(there is no FX4 submodel).

Answered by Jeonino E. / Fri, Jan 08I had the same thing to happen and had to change the small metal rod also. It was causing it be still be difficult to open and break the plastic it was hooked to.
I also found one off a older vehicle that had the interior parks more metal and worked great on the driver door.
