The black one is the exhaust, and the gray one is the intake. If you're replacing both of them the old ones should have the same colors on top of the plug. The engine also has the positions stamped on it. "exh" and "int" the intake being towards the front of the car and the exhaust being towards the back of the car. But the position may vary by make of the vehicle. I have a 2009 Malibu

They have different plugs that the wires hook into so you can not hook them up wrong.

Question: Would this part take care of codes P16CF and P2645?STEVEN L. / Jan 18, 2023 / 2014 GMC TerrainVariable Timing Solenoids, 4 Cylinder
Hi Steve, I'm pleased to assist you. It may solve the issue. We suggest checking the wirings and connectors first. P16CF is a code for Intake Rocker Arm Solenoid Valve 2 Control Circuit. A faulty solenoid on valve 2, an open or shorted harness, or poor electrical connections are possible causes. P2645 is a code for Rocker Arm Actuator Control Circuit/Open Bank 1. If this error code appears, it indicates that an open circuit or short has been detected in the rocker arm actuator control circuit for the exhaust A camshaft in engine bank 1. We also suggest calling our Parts Specialists at 1-866-529-0412 to provide the vehicle information. Have a good one.
