Question: I have a 2008 Infiniti G37 sport coupe and because I’m doing very limited driving (and only short trips) have been raising and lowering my hood DAILY to hook up trickle charger so my battery doesn’t die; seems that is partly the cause (as well as the car’s over 13 years old) for these hood struts to not function reliably, so need to replace them. If I get a “helper” to hold up the hood while I replace them, do I need to purchase the “lift support clamp” for this likely only one-time use, Mia? If you had a helper to hold the opposing side, you really don’t need the hood supports. I changed these out solo, and it wasn’t even that bad. The process itself is really simple and these lift supports and truly plug-and-play. Good luck!

Answered by Michael D. / Fri, Apr 30Lindy, I have a 2010 Infiniti G37 and I just bought the hood lift support pair and my son-in-law installed them in 5 minutes. I did hold the hood up for him. I did not buy the "lift support clamp".

Answered by Willie V. / Fri, Apr 30My thought is you do not need it. I didn't and if you must, use channel locks to clamp and accomplish the same thing. Agree, hate one-time use purchases.
