Hi Robert, I'm glad to assist you. It comes with a certain amount of oil which is needed for lubrication of the compressor's moving mechanical parts. But, manufacturers recommend that you drain the "shipping oil" and refill with "proper (PAG) oil" ahead of installation and loading of the refrigerant to the a/c system. The other purpose of the added oil is to protect the compressor during its stay on the dealer's shelves, retailers' stores, and in the course of transport.
