Hi Dave, I'm glad to help you out. The grease is necessary when installing the CV axle of the 1997 Ford Aerostar. You need to fill the spacer and grease cap with grease when installing the part that you received. We suggest that you refer to a vehicle repair manual for the installation guide. I hope this helps.
