Holes in one of the brackets are 1/2 hole diameter too far apart, so they need to be filed out with a circular file. Haven’t yet obtained the circular file, so I don’t know if it’ll work, but I think it should

Base on our application guide, this part does not fit the 1999 Jeep Wrangler (TJ) Sport 6 Cyl 4.0L. We do have direct fit lift supports for the tailgate, please follow the link to get to the product page;

Hi Gene,
When I check the applications, it was supposed to work like the factory replacement. When you connect both ends of the support and close the vehicle, it won't retract or close the car.
