Hi,
The main difference when looking at struts vs. shocks is that a strut is built into the suspension system within your vehicle, while the shock is an additional part added to the car's construction. A strut is also crucial part of the vehicles steering system and greatly affects alignment angles. Camber and caster angles are usually adjusted right on the strut itself. A strut is also a pivot point for the vehicles steering system and contains a coil spring. Because of this an alignment is always needed when replacing a strut.

This rear pair of strut assembly for the 2002 to 2003 Lexus shows it FWD, not RWD and one very important detail is for without Adaptive Variable Suspension(SET-REPT280715).
