Question: I have this CC in my 2008 passat.  It was installed a little over a year ago.  The check engine light comes on more often than not with the po420 code.  The 0 2 sensors and everything else has been checked and it fine.  I  saw as a last resort in one of my many searches, that the new convertor may need to be READ into the car computer just as new hardware needs to be read into any other computer.  Both VW and my mechanic have said they cannot do it.  Can you offer a workaround or any other help that will enable me to fix this situation?  Currently, CarParts has me jumping thru hoops for a Warranty replacement that I think is unnecessary.  The car runs FINE.   Thank You.   John GlasserJohn G. / Nov 29, 2020
Hi John, For accuracy and best results, we recommend referring to a trusted vehicle specific repair manual for details about troubleshooting, diagnostic, repair and install procedures. But best of all, much better to consult your trusted local auto repair shop or dealership for this issue since they the complete tools to do a more accurate troubleshooting method. You can find more information here as well: https://www.carparts.com/blog/why-you-should-always-consult-a-repair-manual/
