Question: Hello I have a 2014 Ford Explorer limited. V 6 with 3.5 L vin# is 1FM5K8F86EGB01002
The scanner throw a P0420 code catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank1. All the research I have done it says is the catalytic converter already damaged. I am trying to find out 3 things.
1. What you guys mean by firewall side?
2. Is this part an exact match to fit in my car?
3. Is this part new or refurbished?
Thank you in advance for your answers

Hi Fabian,
1. The firewall side is the part of the automobile body that separates the engine compartment from the passenger compartment.
2. This item fits the 2014 Ford Explorer Limited 6 Cyl 3.5L with a Federal emission design. Aside from the vehicle information, please check the emission label sticker, usually found underneath the hood of the vehicle for fitment.
3. This part is brand new.

Question: I have a 2013 Lincoln MKX. Dealership just quoted me $3,300.00 for what he called a manverter. Combo catalytic converter & manifold is this quote average?Patty / Nov 07, 2022
Hi Patricia, I'm glad to be of assistance to you. This part does not fit the 2013 Lincoln MKX Base 6 Cyl 3.7L. We do have direct-fit catalytic converters compatible with the vehicle. But, there are other factors we have to consider, like where the vehicle is registered. What is the emission label? Check the Vehicle Emission Control Information sticker, usually found underneath the hood, to see if it matches the emission control specifications.
Federal emissions (46-state) stickers will just say, "This vehicle conforms to U.S. EPA regulations." California-emissions (50-state) vehicles will state, "This vehicle conforms to U.S. EPA and State of California regulations."

I have a small garage and I do exhaust work for a local dealership. Dealerships overcharge for everything thing. Call a local shop and tell them you can get the part and see what labor is.

All these above I wrote back in March. As a clarification for everyone that purchase from you I want to say you need to make sure such inconvenience does not happens to any one else. I purchased the component and can you imagine my frustration when I tried to install it (mind you... I am not a mechanic). It was the wronh part. You have in your company this part as the bank 1. However, on google, fors website, and you tube is actually bank2. It was a whole day wasted because trying to remove the original one was a major headache for somone as inexperienced as me. And as I said extremely frustraded that the part receved the joint that goes attached to the exhaust it has two sets of screws mounted on oposit plates one set facing up and one on opposite side facing down. This quality is actually the design of the catalytic converter that is located at the front of the engine before the radiator.
Now the other catalytic converter that you guys sale in the description says it goes by the radiator this you guys have it with only one set of screws at the joint section with the exhaust, this is actually the one located in the back of the engine real Bank 1 by the passenger side towards the body of the vehicle.
After all the effort I had Today April 8th sent back the wrong part. Put back the old catalytic and have this past weekend wasted and frustraded and still with the same issue. Everyone just make sure this does not happen to any of you in the futureFabian J. / Apr 09, 2021
Hi Fabian, I'm glad to assist you. The firewall side is the catalytic converter facing the engine firewall (also called passenger side) which is this bank 1(where the number 1 cylinder is located) of the engine. As per checking, as well the research that I did, the code P0420 is referring to the catalytic converter for the bank 1. In addition, the code P0430 is referring to the front radiator side catalytic converter (driver side). Still, Just to make it clear that our answers here are not an official diagnostic procedure or solution for any questions that customers may ask. You still really need to have your vehicle checked by your trusted local auto repair shop or dealership. Also, this part can only be used for the 46 states with Federal emissions and not legal for sale and use in CA, NY. ME and Colorado. This part is brand new backed up by 1 year unlimited mileage warranty. I hope this helps. Happy shopping.

Thank you for helping, Ina.

Yes I also ordered and the part was labeled different on the website so yes the wrong part was also sent to me so if you need the firewall side cat then order the radiator side one and vice versa or you will get the wrong one. They both look the same but the flange that bolts to the exhaust pipe is different on the two.

Answered by Daniel R. / Fri, Apr 09The catalytic converter I purchased was brand new and yes it will fit a 2014 Ford Explorer V6,I think what they’re saying about firewall side is the location of which catalytic converter is bad but in my opinion is best to change all at the same time because usually the other one’s will go bad not too far after.

Answered by Corey L. / Fri, Apr 09Some fords explorers come with different converters because they were built at a different factory. There are up to 4 converters. Also. It’s the same code reading for the converter as it is for the O2 sensor which explorers have up to 4 of those as well.

Answered by Tina D. / Fri, Apr 09Bank one is the firewall side . Bank 2 is the radiator side. The bank 1 job is a tough one for a mechanic let alone someone who never tackled one before.

Answered by George G. / Fri, Apr 09Question: I have replaced the firewall side and the radiator side catalytic converter. Cleared all codes, drove for 60 miles and the light came back on. Having somebody look at it now and they're saying that sometimes the aftermarket parts do not work. Can you comment on this? I went to great pains to make sure what I ordered was the correct parts. Do you have recommendations for addressing this scenario?Seth M. / May 27, 2021
Hello! Do you know what fault code is causing the check engine light to come on?
MD
Did you also replace all of the o2 sensors too? A foul one will cause the same code aka failure of bank 1 or 2 as the cat itself. That’s the only thing I can think of. If that still doesn’t work, get your money back, they’ll work with you.

Answered by Jon U. / Fri, May 28Yes I had the same problem still driving with check engine light on. I also replaced O2 sensors. Still the same
