Answered by Pedro / Sat, Sep 24I believe they would be considered to be on the outside of the engine compartment. They get mounted at the outer bottom of the plastic fender wheel wells to shield the engine compartment from dirt and debris

I ordered hoping they just had an incorrect image. Nope. That's exactly what came just not what I needed for my '01 4.0 XLT Rwd 4dr 6ft bed.
