Installed the new light assembly today & it seems to work fine. Black plastic piece behind the bulbs was broke but I was able to install the piece from the original assembly .

Hello Connie,
This unit is a sealed headlight with the lens. Replacing the whole unit is the only way to do it correctly.

Answered by Aldrin P. / Sat, Sep 19Not really sure. Probably not. If that were the case there would be a lot less foggy headlamps. I just replaced 2 complete assemblies on my ‘03 beetle. They are not cheap. Wondering if original vw parts would have fit better but was not willing to pay 400.00 each. I often wondered if you can do what you’re asking. Let me know if you find a way. FYI, I also thought someone stole mine, turns out it just felt on his own and I ran on top of it . It is really easy to replace .
