Excellent, I purchased my 350Z as a used vehicle on a car lot in Virginia where the sun and road traffic dirt with street repair ongoing for a year, it actually ruined the paint and the headlights smooth surfaces! Hello – There are a few ways you can tell. In some cases, HID headlamps will display the characters D1R, D1S, D2R or D2S (this is the bulb type) on the lens. So try looking for that, first.
Another way you can tell is by looking at the headlamp bulbs themselves. HID bulbs should also display the markings D1R, D1S, D2R or D2S, as these numbers signify the bulb type. Also, if the bulb is an HID-type, it may say that somewhere on the base.
The two types of bulbs also look different. Unlike halogen bulbs, HID bulbs contain a pair of electrodes, rather than a filament. Plus, HID bulbs typically have a longer glass portion and many have a square igniter base. HID bulbs produce a whiter light than halogen bulbs, as well.
Also, you can look for the OE part number that’s printed on the headlamp itself, though sometimes the number is hidden on the underside of the assembly. In the case of this product, the OE part numbers for the left and read HID headlamps are 26010CF40B and 26060CF40B.
And finally, if all else fails, you can call your local dealership with your car’s VIN number. The parts department should be able to tell you whether your car has HID or halogen headlamps.
