Question: So if my transponder is bad can I used this set up with the OBDII plug in to get my ranger running again…. I’ve been trying to figure out how to fix the damn thing with out just changing parts …. But if this works like that I can get my truck back on the road again with out pulling my hair out ….?JohnBoy / Jul 15, 2023
Hi John, I'm glad to assist you. If your original transponder key fob (keyless entry) is not working, it is not generally possible to use a regular ignition lock cylinder with keys as a substitute. Transponder keys use microchips that transmit a low-level signal from the key to the receiver, located in the car. The manufacturer programs the microchip in the key with a unique serial number that will only match up to the digital serial number in the car. It is to prevent theft. The correct and matching part number for your vehicle is RB989018. Dorman comes with instructions on how to program the keys. Click the link below to buy it today.
