Hi Marie, I installed this mirror on my 2009 VW New Beetle. Like you, I broke the stem. The replacement is an incredible bargain. If Your VW matches what this mirror assembly requires. Go for it. Here is the downside. I am a pretty mechanical guy. The removal of the old mirror and installation of the new mirror although, not terribly difficult, can be complicated to someone who has not done this sort of work before. If you are "mechanical" or, have a friend that is mechanical, wonderful. Go after it. The directions on how to install are on the internet. Hope this helps! Good luck!
