Loose plug caused major oil leakOil Pump, 4 Cyl., 1.6L Engine
3.0/5
Shipping was fast! The pump looked brand new. Got it installed and had a major oil leak, like a quart per hour. I thought maybe I didn’t use enough gasket maker when I bolted it on. These pumps are located above the oil pan and behind the timing cover and crank pulley. So you have to take quite a bit apart to change it. So after tearing everything down a second time and removing the pump, applying a generous amount of gasket maker and reinstalling the pump and putting everything back together, I still had my exact same oil leak. I partly blame myself for not spending enough time diagnosing the leak. I probably could have saved some time the second time. Turns out the 3/4 inch plug on the side of the pump was loose and gushing oil. So I put some thread sealer on the plug and tightened it up and no more leaks. 3 stars for a loose plug and all the extra time. But otherwise the pump seems to be working just fine.
