I purchased this started for a 1970 GMC 350 w?Turbo Hydro transmission after being assured that it would fit the truck. Well the nose on the starter was the wrong nose for it so I decided to rebuild the nose off of my old starter and install it on the new starter.
When I took the new starter apart to install the nose on it I found that the commutator looked like it had been turned on a lathe using a screwdriver for a cutting bit. It was so rough that it would have chewed of the new brushes in 1 year or less and the brush holders did not fit the brushes correctly and the brushes were all riding in the corners of the brushes.
This is not at all what you would like to see when you open up what is supposed to be a new starter because it shows nothing but early failure of what is supposed to be a new starter.
Quality Built needs to to redesign their brush holders to properly fit and hold the brushes straight in place and they also need to spend a bit more time dressing their commutators so they are nice and smooth so they do not chew up the new brushes.
I returned the starter to APW for a refund and rebuilt my old starter which lasted 47 years and is now good to go for another 47 years.
