Hello!
The timing chain links the crankshaft to the camshaft to keep the two shafts in sync. In this particular timing chain set, the larger sprocket is for the camshaft and the smaller sprocket is for the crankshaft. Hopefully, that answers your question. If not, let me know!

Answered by Mia B. / Wed, Jun 03Yes, the timing chain is located on the front of the motor on this application (unlike older Ford's, which was on the back of the motor). Everything Mia B said is also correct. Large gear is for cam & smaller gear is for crank. The oil 2 pump seals that come in the kit are junk, they don't have holes to allow oil to pump through the motor. But the rest of the kit is fine and works great. Use RTV silicone instead of the 2 oil pump seals that come with the kit. If you use the 2 oil pump seals that come with the kit, expect your motor to starve for oil... which will cause severe damage. If you're lucky enough to catch it before damage occurs, you'll have to take everything back apart and use RTV.
