Not Quite perfect fitAluminized Steel Exhaust Pipe, Walker Oe Replacement
3.0/5
Initially this looked like it would be a performance upgrade since the entire pipe I.D. was larger than the stock pipe I.D. After removing the original part from the 1997 XJ I noticed that the hanger rod on the original was 3/8" diameter rod and that the hanger rod on the replacement part was only 1/4" diameter rod. When the replacement part was fitted there was too much play in the transmission mount hanger and the pipe was touching the trans cross member. No amount of twisting or readjusting prior to locking down clamps could find a position where the pipe did not touch the cross member. I needed to get my OxyAc torch and heat up the 1/4" diameter rod and bend it so that the pipe would not touch the cross member. Once that was done the pipe was reinstalled and clamped tight. In hindsight it appeared that the hanger rod was probably the correct bend but when welded at the factory the position was rotated such that the pipe was not held in the correct position. I should have ground off this part and rewelded, but think that the bend that I made should work.
