Hello! The silver phillips head screws on the back of the headlight are for adjusting the beam output.

I had trouble with that too. There is an adjustment bolt, but I had to slot 2 of the mounting holes to get the beam to be correct

Hi Daniel, I'm glad to assist you. No, this cannot be upgraded to HID bulbs since the type and size of the HID bulbs are different. The socket connectors are also different and would also require a ballast to power the HID bulbs. The best upgrade is to replace the existing halogen bulbs with LED bulbs.
